Pupil-optimized design combined with a hybrid back curve help ensure the optimized optics stay centered over the pupil. Infused with a proprietary wetting agent for exceptional all-day comfort, ACUVUE® Multifocal Contact Lenses are engineered for consistent performance and comfort regardless of age or refractive error. Follow the fitting protocol below to ensure clear vision and optimal comfort in three easy steps.
Step 1: Subjective Refraction
- Perform a fresh spherical refraction in ambient light.
- Conduct a red-green duochrome test to refine the spherical endpoint and make sure you don’t add too much minus power.
- Conduct the test monocularly and then binocularly.
Step 2: Determine Ocular Dominance
- Use a sensory dominance test—not sighting dominance—to optimize binocular summation.
- Avoid adding positive power to the dominant eye.
Step 3: Determine Functional Add
- Inquire what working distance is specific to your patient and physically measure it. Since many patients now work predominantly on computers or digital devices, this distance most likely will be further than the 16-inch distance from years ago.
- Based on this working distance, measure the minimum add the patient needs to comfortably see at this distance. This distance becomes the functional add.
